I am a PhD student in Political Science at American University in Washington, DC. I study public opinion, LGBTQ+ politics, social media, political psychology, and prejudice reduction and attitude change.
My work examines public opinion toward marginalized groups, with a particular focus on how public opinion toward transgender people is formed, when attitudes can change and under what circumstances prejudice against transgender people can be reduced.
In related work, I also analyze political attitudes of LGBTQ+ individuals, policy responsiveness to LGBTQ+ public opinion, and the political consequences of politicians’ outreach to LGBTQ+ communities. I can be reached via [email protected].
Dissertation Project
Now You See Me: Social Media and Opinion Change Toward Transgender People
In my dissertation project, I investigate how social media shapes public opinion toward transgender people and transgender rights. The project examines the role of online networks, mediated exposure, and psychological processes in shaping general attitudes toward transgender people, reducing transphobia, and increasing support for transgender rights.
Before joining AU, I received my M.A in Political Science from University of California, Riverside in 2022, and B.A in Political Science from Oregon State University in 2020.
I am also a music composer and classical guitarist. I frequently draw inspiration from the classical repertoire, film soundtracks, and personal experience. I write guitar solos, chamber pieces, as well as orchestral music using MIDI keyboard and my guitar. Music is how I express experiences, feelings, ups and downs. Several of my guitar compositions have been performed in concert programs at the American Guitar Society, Riverside City College, University of Redlands, and Norco College. Some of my compositions can be found here.
I also enjoy attending classical concerts, exploring fashion and makeup, diving into social media, and probably spending too much time figuring out what to wear the next day.
